Learn Foundational Principles in Economics in 10 weeks

The Mises Crest

The Mises Crest

One of our passions here at HumanAction.co.za is imparting some sound insights about the way the economy and the world really works.  But while we hope to offer an informative, entertaining and educational experience to readers, the last thing we want to do is needlessly reinvent the wheel and vie for popularity with other great websites.

Our goal here is economic freedom, not popularity.  And so it is with much excitement that we point you toward the Mises Academy.  This is the online teaching service of the Ludwig von Mises Institute which this year began offering online courses in Austrian School economics, facilitated and coordinated by some of the Institute’s top economists and theorists.

The next course on offer looks like one not to be missed.  Robert Murphy, a regular contributor to the Mises Daily opinion piece section, will take the course Principles of Economics, spanning 10 weeks from September 7 through November 19, 2010.

As Murphy himself explains, the purpose of the course is not to delve into deep and cumbersome theoretics as much as it is to provide a framework for understanding how the economy and the world works.  Trust us, the Mises Institute is an excellent custodian of all things Austrian School, and these men and women have dedicated their professional lives to providing and making available a vast depth of excellent resources and materials that further the scope, reach, and intellectual influence of the Austrian tradition.

This course is run online and people from around the globe will be able to take part.  The cost of the 10-week course is $250, or R1,875 in rand terms at the current rate of exchange.  If you have teenagers who may be interested in studying economics at university level, offer them the chance to take this course so that they are not brainwashed first by the economic idiocy taught in mainstream universities.  Likewise, for those of you who are unschooled in sound economic reasoning and can see the mess supposedly expert economists are making out there in the world of business, finance and government policy, this course is likely for you.  In 10 weeks you are likely to learn more sound economic thinking than most masters students learn in 4 or 5 years of formal studying.

In short, if you only take one economic course in your life, this would probably be a very strong candidate to be that one!

Get more details here from Murphy himself, sign up for a 10-week foundation course in economic sanity, and be a more proficient economic thinker by mid-November.
