If you think the banks and mines won’t ultimately be nationalised by the ANC, think again. This, from the ANC’s Freedom Charter of 1955.
The People Shall Share in the Country`s Wealth!
The national wealth of our country, the heritage of South Africans, shall be restored to the people;
The mineral wealth beneath the soil, the Banks and monopoly industry shall be transferred to the ownership of the people as a whole;
All other industry and trade shall be controlled to assist the wellbeing of the people;
All people shall have equal rights to trade where they choose, to manufacture and to enter all trades, crafts and professions.
Being pro-freedom and pro-liberty, I am glad the ANC didn’t gain control of the political apparatus back when this was written in 1955. This doesn’t mean to say I approve of the Nats’ apartheid policy. I am a libertarian.
The ANC wrote in the charter that: “THESE FREEDOMS WE WILL FIGHT FOR, SIDE BY SIDE, THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES, UNTIL WE HAVE WON OUR LIBERTY.” Yet, in the charter they ask for things that are the antithesis of liberty, such as confiscating some people’s property to redistribute to others. That’s not what liberty or freedom is all about.
Because Nelson Mandela didn’t fight for true liberty and freedom, but rather fought to support socialist and collectivist visions of society, which him and the ANC incorrectly labelled ‘liberty’ and ‘freedom,’ we aren’t too excited about Mandela day on Monday. To us libertarians here at HA, he is sadly but just another glorified statist.
I just wonder what all the media and business fuss is about when, as quoted in the above article, that this is what the ANC has planned since 1955. Why are people so surprised? It appears government control of all aspects of our lives are to be “controlled”!
